Dear Audience, the Strategic Defense and Security Review (SDSR) is a major talking point in the U.K. and will shape the British armed forces for the next five years. As the 5th largest defence spender in the world – after the U.S., China, Saudi-Arabia and Russia – the UK nevertheless ranks first in Europe. Therefore, it is not surprising that the effects of the British decisions in terms of defence spending – how much, what and where – will have an impact on Europe as well.
The SDSR points out that strong defence underpins the values on which our society and the international system depend – democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty and prosperity.
